Who SHOULD consider upgrading to iOS 10?
In our opinion, not everyone should upgrade to iOS 10. If your device is listed below, we think you're good to upgrade. Otherwise, you might want to hold off since newer technology in older devices tends to slow them down.

Forget typing, use Dictation

Siri is a pretty awesome tool on your devices. I use the the Alex voice, but there are other voices. So choose one you like.

Have you tried using dictation on the Mac yet? Dictation has come a long way and if your are on Mavericks, Yosemite or El Capitan, Apple’s enhanced dictation works magnificently.

Although, Dictation will be a frustrating experience if you are in a noisy room, (people talking, music, etc), but in a quiet place, it can be an awesome tool for dictating in nearly any program including mail.

Setting up Enhanced Dictation

  • Open System Preferences, select Dictation & Speech. Turn on Dictation and set up your options.
  • Check the Use Enhanced Dictation box. This will download a file so you can dictate without an internet connection.
  • Choose the keyboard shortcut you will use to signal that you’re ready to start dictating. The default is pressing the function Fn key twice, which I find convenient and I can remember it. You will find the Fn key on the lower left of the keyboard.
  • Choose your preferred microphone from the pop-up menu below the microphone icon. Normally, you use the internal microphone but it works very well to use earbuds that came with your phone, that little bar on the cord is a mic and does a nice job of filtering out background noise.

Using Dictation

  • Open mail, or a word processor or any place you normally type
  • Press the keyboard shortcut (Fn Fn twice) for starting dictation.  Or choose Edit > Start Dictation.
  • When your Mac is listening, it displays a microphone.
  • Speak the words that you want your Mac to type. Use dictation commands to add punctuation, formatting, and more.  In other words say comma, person, new paragraph, etc.
  • To stop dictating, click Done below the microphone icon, or press Fn.

The more you use Dictation, the better it understands you and the more accurate. Dictation learns the characteristics of your voice and adapts.

Give Dictation a try!

Make up to 100 QR Codes at the same time

  • I follow Tony Vincent on Instagram and learn something from Tony every single day.    His amazing website is http://learninginhand.com and is full of useful resources and thing to learn.

Recently, Tony had a post about a tool to make multiple QR Codes at one time, up to 100!!. Frequently I have the need to make a bunch of QR codes, it is not difficult, but it takes time, I generally use QR Stuff to make QR codes, one at a time. So QRExplore is super handy for making them all at once. Anything to save me time, I am up for using.

HINT: If you haven’t embraced Instagram yet, follow Tony and learn from him, I suspect you will discover the power of Instagram for yourself.

    Tony says……

( Thanks Tony for sharing your amazing knowledge educators everywhere)

"Want to generate a whole batch of different QR codes? Then the Bulk QR Code Generator at QRExplore.com is for you! Enter the URL or text for each code on its own line. I like that you can choose to have each code’s URL stamped onto the bottom of the code. After generated, you see a web page with all your codes. You could simply print this page and use scissors to cut out the codes. If you want to use the codes in a document, QRExplore gives you the option to download a .zip file. That file will contain a PNG image for each of your codes.

Why would you want to generate so many different codes at once? Well, maybe you’re planning a “scanvenger” hunt. Or maybe you want students to jigsaw content and each code opens a web link to a different topic, article, or video. Maybe each code has a different adjective that students will incorporate into the narratives they are writing. Or, use multiple QR codes to give students random compliments or reflection questions. How about giving students surprise numbers to use in a math problem? There are lots of possibilities when it’s so easy to make loads of QR codes at once!

HINT: Be sure to include the http:// in front of each web link you enter into QRExplore.

So give it a try and follow Tony on Instagram for a new tip each day.  https://www.instagram.com/learninginhand/

5 Minute Snapchat 101 Tutorial by Wes Fryer and his son Alex.

The kids are using it. So you’ve probably heard about Snapchat. It's the popular mobile app that allows you to send videos and pictures, both of which will self destruct after a few seconds of a person viewing them.

Snapchat is also a fun messaging app. You can take a photo or a video with it, then add a caption or doodle or lens graphic over top, and send it to a friend. Alternatively, you can add it to your "story", a 24-hour collection of your photos and videos, which you broadcast to the world or just your followers.

So for this weeks resources, here ya go, everything you need to know about using snapchat. My friend Wes Fryer made a tutorial with his Son Alex.  Everything you need to know about snapchat!!  I’ll admit it, I have not used it many times yet, but I am interested and plan to learn more and give it a good try.

WHAT IS SNAPCHAT: Snapchat is a mobile app that allows users to send and receive "self-destructing" photos and videos. Photos and videos taken with the app are called Snaps. Snapchat uses the device's camera to capture Snaps and Wi-fi technology to send them.
